OK, so after what PC Financial did to my account (they closed it while I was away from Canada) I need to open a new one somewhere else. I am not driving at the moment and wont be for the forseeable future so I need a bank that has convenient branch/ATM locations. And yes, I can do with a free, unlimited transactions account please
. Any suggestions?

Where are you in Canada? Coast Capital are pretty good in BC for free unlimited transactions. Most Credit Unions (equivalent to Building Societies) have free unlimited accounts.

Scotia Bank have a good immigrants account offer where they provide 12 months free transactions. It might be a good place to start, you can always change banks later

Thanks for the tip Mike. I'll find a Scotia Bank branch nearby to see what's on offer.
Any idea if RBC has any good deals going on for new immigrants? And is it any good?

Not sure about RBC, although my sister and brother in law bank with them and have no complaints with the service. I'll see if I can find if they have any offers and get back to you

Yes, RBC offer a package as well. I would suggest comparing the two

BMO Club Sobeys is a good one if you want no fee with real branch locations.
Not sure if they would be any use on the credit card side of things. I went with the RBC Welcome to Canada pack.
Credit card issued with no hold. After 6 months limit raised and issued a second card + overdraft. No complaints so far other than the fees
