I had a T reg (when the T bit was at the end of the plate) Talbot Sunbeam, bought it for 275GBP from a bloke just outside Durham in 1987.

I loved that car, loved it much more than my best friend (whose parents bought her a Golf) loved hers, because I paid for it with my own pennies. It used to carry me and my mates up to Derwent Reservoir where we would sail endlessly. Well, I loved it right up until I traded it in for 500GBP against a brand new Ford Fiesta Popular Plus 1100cc. I loved that car. Loved it because it used to safely carry me down the hell that was the A1 in the 80s and across the M62 to my beloved.

I loved it right up until we traded it in for a red Vauxhall Nova GTE. I loved that car. That was probably my favourite car that I've had and I loved it right up until we traded it in for a sparkly blue special edition Peugeot 205 GTi.

That one got traded in for a more appropriate car (ie one that would fit a pram in the boot) and I kind of lost interest then

Ford Fiesta Bonus - 999cc engine, 4 gears, no tachy. H219 CVS when I got it in 1999. Did what it needed to do, but I did have to replace a burnt out piston.

White Ford Escort 1.3l
SUP 582V.
Black go-faster stripes, cibie super oscars, radio one roadshow sunstrip thingy, auto reverse cassette player with separate graphic equalizer and 4 ( count them...four!) speakers including 2 silver boxes on the back parcel shelf, and a rather temperamental electric up/down aerial.

I sold it in 2001 for 150 GBP so someone did OK to keep it going.

Brown 1964 Epic Envoy (AKA Vauxhall Viva). My boyfriend bought it for me for my 16th birthday for $75. It had no brakes and rust holes in the floor and of course I didn't know how to drive a manual transmission, but it was all mine.

Considering it was subject to my attempts at maintenance for a few years from about age 4-6, it did well to last that long!

A fab white Sunbeam Sport. Paid 100 quid because it was apparently a non runner. Boyfriend now husband got the jump leads out and it started immediately. Loved that car. Sold it to an old guy and found out a couple of weeks later he'd had a funny turn reversing off his driveway, foot hard on the accelerator and plowed across the road, down opposite driveway and slammed into neighbour's car writing both off.

1965 Ford pickup, about 8 MPG on its second engine. No speeding tickets in it.
