Malaysia are now denying that story and saying that the RR engine report is false, however, they then went on to say:
Malaysian authorities expanded their search for the missing jetliner into the Andaman Sea and beyond on Thursday after saying it could have flown for several hours after its last contact with the ground.

Seems like another contradictory statement.

The Independent in London is citing US "counter terrorism officials" for information on how long the engines ran, which makes it sound like the communication from RR engines back to Rolls Royce might be another data stream that US intelligence services are "listening in on".

They were showing a map on one of the screens as we passed a coffee shop earlier....it had a 2500 mile radius circle drawn on it with the center being the last known point...could just imagine the newscaster....." we know it's in here somewhere..."

Pretty farcical if it wasn't so damn serious/sad/pathetic

ETA son has just come in saying he heard the tv in the hotel reception and apparently they are again talking about it having made landfall and possibly landed. I cannot imagine how the relatives must feel, going through all this....

Looks like that info seems to be becoming a little prominent - how often do you suppose it happens that people check in, check their luggage but then don't get on the flight?

I have been on flights were they have called for the last few passengers, but I don't think I have ever seen bags unloaded....
Yeah I've seen it more than once. Presumably they get carried away in the duty-free shop or something

Well, here is my what if. What if that plane did not crash at all and was hijacked and landed somewhere remote. If it had fuel for another four hours of flying time, whoever was controlling that plane could have had other ideas instead of simply crashing it into the sea.

Malaysia Airlines on March 11 refuted a report that five passengers had checked into the flight but did not board, raising the issue of potential unaccompanied baggage on the plane. The airline said four people with tickets did not show up for the flight, but also did not check in.

They'll be arguing what colour the plane is/was next. This is just becoming ridiculous. Each country trying to score points in an unwinnable contest. Maybe we should have 'radio silence' until they find the thing.

If it wasn't for 239 people on board, it would be a farce! If this was a film it would have been panned by the critics for having an absurd script, a ridiculous plot, and very poor directing.

They already did, it was called Lost. Actually I don't know if that was the plot as I only saw the first episode.

Lost was an awesome series - except the last episode.
